Vt. man wins $650K after pulling ticket from trash (AP)

AP - A Vermont man who threw out a lottery ticket he'd been given for Christmas pulled it out of the trash and cashed it — winning $650,000. Steven LeClair, of Richford, got the ticket for the Dec. 24 Tri-State Megabucks drawing as a gift from his mother. But it was in a gift bag that LeClair threw away, not knowing it was inside.

Man accused of ramming wheelchair into officer (AP)

AP - A 45-year-old paraplegic rammed his wheelchair into an officer, threw urine from his catheter bag a patrol car and spat at the officer, police said Sunday. Ralph Evegan was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Bad recycling: Pay stub used as bank robbery note (AP)

AP - The robber's threatening note made a Chicago bank job easy to solve: The FBI says the suspect wrote it on his pay stub. An FBI affidavit said the man walked into a Fifth Third Bank on Friday and handed a teller a note that read "Be Quick Be Quit (sic). Give your cash or I'll shoot."

Man carrying over $70 chooses jail over $1.57 soda (AP)

AP - Eau Claire police said a man accused of stealing a soda worth $1.57 chose to go to jail rather than pay up, even though he was carrying more than $70. Police responding to the report of a theft recently say the 27-year-old man appeared drunk. An employee told officers the man had taken a cup from the counter, filled it and began drinking.

Colorado town tries to solve mystery of no water (AP)

AP - About 6,000 people were left without water for about 10 hours over the weekend and town officials were unable to immediately explain why. Milliken public works director Mike Woodruff said the town lost 750,000 to 1 million gallons of water but crews could not locate a water line break or other reason for the missing water.

Chinese man detained for 3 days for smoking on train (Reuters)

Reuters - A man was given three days in detention for breaking a non-smoking rule on a new high-speed rail line, Chinese state media said, an unusually severe punishment in a country where smoking bans are routinely ignored.
