Selling the USA (USATODAY.com)

05-05-2008 13h20
USATODAY.com - For much of the 20th century, the United States did a stellar job convincing the rest of the world it was a country to be admired. Credit obviously goes to U.S. actions such as fighting in World War II and the Marshall Plan to rebuild Germany. But just as important was how the world learned about the United States and its values. A semi-autonomous agency, the U.S. Information Agency, promoted the country's image abroad.

Our view on fiscal responsibility: GOP senators offer tax cuts, reach for the credit card (USATODAY.com)

USATODAY.com - Anyone wondering why the federal budget is out of whack should take a look at an e-mail we received the other day from 41 Senate Republicans. It called for about $100 billion worth of tax cuts and demanded that they not be "paid for" — notwithstanding a budget rule requiring Congress to do just that.

Opposing view: Don't buy budget trickery (USATODAY.com)

USATODAY.com - Those of us concerned about government spending and deficits might wish for a pay-go policy that would discipline lawmakers' appetite to spend and compel a responsible federal budget. The version of pay-go promoted by the current Congress doesn't do that. Not by a long shot.

Ivy Leaguers are bright – but nice? (The Christian Science Monitor)

The Christian Science Monitor - For my family, the college application process this year was a happy one – my younger sister was accepted at an Ivy League school. I was thrilled for her and excited to answer questions about my own university experience.

To be young and voting (The Christian Science Monitor)

The Christian Science Monitor - The excitement started to bubble up a couple of election cycles ago. In 2004, the youth vote spiked dramatically upward. In 2006, it increased again. All signs point to another rise in November. It looks as if America has itself a healthy civic trend going on.

10 Delegates (The Nation)

25-04-2008 06h05
The Nation - The Nation -- That's how many pledged delegates Hillary Clinton gained after her "big win" in Pennsylvania, according to delegate projections released by the Obama campaign. Most news outlets forecast a similar margin, ranging from a nine to twelve delegate pickup for Clinton.

McCain Plan Gives Healthcare Power to the People (RealClearPolitics.com)

02-05-2008 21h30
RealClearPolitics.com - After Reverend Wright-gate, after landing under sniper fire-gate and even after unseated delegate-gate, Americans will be left with a choice between two candidates with vastly different views on the major policy issues confronting our nation today. The winner of the Obama-Clinton showdown will be virtually indistinguishable on matters of policy from the loser. One of the many issues on which they are in lockstep is health care.
